Pi, your personal AI

As the “first emotionally intelligent AI,” Pi’s mental health-centered chatbot surpassed 1 million daily users in March 2024. Pi’s parent company Inflection AI appears to recognize consumer concerns and corporate responsibility surrounding privacy and safety with AI as outlined throughout its site.

Privacy Policy

Data Collection

Pi collects information provided by users such as contact and account information, content and metadata, communications including survey responses and communications, and other data not specifically listed in the Privacy Policy.

It also collects data automatically. This includes device and online activity data such as the “pages or screens you viewed, how long you spent on a page or screen, the website you visited before browsing to the Services, navigation paths between pages or screens, information about your activity on a page or screen, access times, duration of access, and whether you have opened or otherwise engage with our communications.”

It also collects sensitive data through conversations with the chatbot including religion, sexual orientation, politics, health, racial and ethnic origin, philosophical beliefs, and trade union membership. Pi also obtains information from third-party platforms like Facebook or Instagram if you so choose to connect them to your account.

Data Sharing

Pi does not sell or share your data with third parties for “interest-based advertising purposes.” It may disclose your personal information to service providers including hosting services, cloud computing and storage sites, and customer support; and business transferees in the event of bankruptcy, change of control, or the shutdown, sale, or merger of the Inflection AI business.

Privacy Rights

You have the right to delete your account, opt out of SMS messaging, opt out of online tracking technologies (“cookies”), request personal information, and access, correct, delete, withdraw consent for use and collection, and object or request Pi’s use of your personal information. You can exercise these rights by emailing privacy@pi.ai.

In some instances such as when your request would “impair the rights of others,” Pi’s ability to provide a requested service, and more, your privacy rights may be limited. In the case of a denial of a privacy-related request, you can complain to a data protection regulator.

Data Security

Inflection AI’s technical measures include internal measures limiting access ot personal information to a dedicated set of specialist employees working on improving the safety or quality of services and de-identifying sensitive data like conversational logs when possible to preserve user privacy.
